I have written a weekly column for the Kerrville Daily Times since 1994, mostly about local history, but often about the "rural life" we enjoy here in Kerrville, Texas, on the edge of the desert, the last green spot between San Antonio and El Paso. I write from my office, across the street from the hospital where I was born; both sit high on a bluff above the beautiful green Guadalupe River. I am married to a lovely first-grade school teacher, and we have two college-aged children.
